In the beginning, HouseLife was little more than a vague dream – never having owned my own business before, I wasn’t sure where to begin in its development. And although I had given plenty of fashion advice to friends and family over the years, my ideas had never led to a paycheque before. Needless to say, there was a lot to learn and do before HouseLife could take flight!

I began my journey by taking a free class on starting your own business offered by some motivated and inspired students – and I’ll forever be grateful for their support and encouragement. While I was taking that class, I sat with my friend Kyla and wrote out a list of words that came to mind when I thought about the kind of business that I wanted to create. It was Kyla who came up with the name of “HouseLife”, and her words of encouragement were the first of many that I received from other women in my life as I embarked on my new career path. One of the most amazing things about starting and running my business is the connections that I have made with other entrepreneurs – and some of the most supportive of this group have been women.

The amazing part, is that HouseLife was born out of my own simple desire to do something I loved – and make money while doing it! Prior to having my daughter, I was on an academic path, that didn’t have the same attraction for me after my maternity leave because of the likelihood of frequent relocation. But I knew that I wanted my daughter to grow up with a mother who had her own passion and dream, her own earning potential and her own sense of self. I wasn’t living those things until I started HouseLife, but now I live them everyday! Through growing and running my business, I’ve realized that I also want to help other women achieve what I have and learn and grow with them. With this in mind, I’ve started planning and executing events – and I never would have thought that this is where my business would take me. Read more about past and upcoming HouseLife events here.

I try to take things as they come, take my time, and take stock of what I’ve got. I live with my amazing husband, and our beautiful and brilliantly wonderful 3 year old daughter. Together with them I am building a life that I am proud of – one that is full of love, gratitude and potential.

Fashionably Yours,
